Spring is a Great Time to Build a New Pool

Let’s face it, like most things in life, there is no guidebook or exact way to do things. There is, however, a way to do things logically.

Springtime, from March to May, in our opinion, is the best time to build a new swimming pool. The weather is a) dryer and b) will allow you’re swimming pool to be well underway for the summer months. Then you can use your new pool right through to the end of the hot season.

And, in a look back to January’s blog, climate change is bringing warmer seasons and that most definitely means more splash time in that pool!

Regulatory approvals

Spring is an easier time to obtain planning permission as councils aren’t as busy as in other peak period months.

UK planning rules around swimming pools say they are generally treated as a ‘garden project’. Most homeowners do not need any permission to build a swimming pool in the back garden. However, it must be at least 3metres from your property when it’s built.

Even with indoor swimming pools, you might not need planning permission. For planning, most homeowners are covered under Class E for Householders if they are within regulations. Outbuildings must be single storey and can’t be in front of the house. You can find out about the basic requirements concerning distance from your boundaries, height and proportions from your local council. Depending on the size of your outbuilding, Building Regulations might apply, so that’s worth checking too.

Energy efficiency

If your pool includes heating elements, spring is a good time to install them in preparation for the cooler months ahead. This will make sure your pool is ready for use even when the temperatures drop. Using the best materials will always allow your pool to be more efficient. At Mosaic Swimming Pools we use the best insulation and building materials to provide efficient energy usage for our customers.

Construction availability

You want your swimming pool build to go as smoothly as possible. Spring allows better scheduling flexibility, as contractors and builders may have more availability compared to the busier summer months. Starting the project in spring can help make sure your pool is completed in good time. Then you and your family can get splashing around as soon as possible.

Ground working conditions

The ground is often less wet in spring than the autumn and winter months. This makes digging and construction more manageable. Drier ground conditions also provide better stability during the process.

And finally…

To round up, we encourage everyone to plan well ahead for the construction of a swimming pool and to bear these things in mind. To avoid extra costs, we recommend a thorough look at all angles of the build to ensure a smooth construction project.

That being said, having your own custom-made swimming pool built in time for the summer, autumn, winter and spring, year in and year out, is very, very exciting.
